Sierra Leone's Ministry of Health and Sanitation expressed interest in mHero in November 2014, calling for support for the two-way communication platform to help strengthen their health systems. Through the USAID Ebola Grand Challenge, IntraHealth began supporting the ministry in September 2015, working in collaboration with other local partners, including the World Health Organization, to scale iHRIS. Interoperability between iHRIS and RapidPro was established in November 2015, and the platform was successfully demonstrated to ministry staff who were eager to learn of the platform’s utility. IntraHealth created a facility registry, and also received a request to make iHRIS interoperable with DHIS2, further enhancing the mHero platform in Sierra Leone.
